There’s Having The Countryside On Your Doorstep Then There’s Having Your Own Back Gate To A Country Park. That’s something to look forward to, for now just enjoy the showstopping German kitchen-diner and landscaped garden that combine to create the social hub of this impressive extended family home.
There's a gate at the bottom of the garden that opens straight onto the fields behind. It's currently being used to store chalk excavated as part of the Ackender Hill building work, but is set to become a country park with access through to Ackender Woods once the work is done. More on that huge lifestyle bonus shortly. First, the kitchen-diner…
The family who've owned this house since new extended the ground floor in 2021, and the result is a space that runs almost 31 feet - big enough to cook, eat, host and spill out into the garden all at the same time.
Two roof lanterns pull light in from above, bifold doors span nearly the full width of the back wall, and underfloor heating means it's the room everyone gravitates to in winter just as much as summer.
The kitchen itself is German-made with quartz worktops, a Quooker tap for instant boiling and filtered cold water, a vented Elica induction hob and self-cleaning Bosch double ovens with microwave. The island has USB charging built in and seats guests along one side while you cook. A glass splashback, integrated Bosch dishwasher and porcelain tiles that run inside and out finish a space that was thought through properly.
The lounge sits separately at the front - a quieter family room with its own identity, carpeted and calm, away from the hubbub at the back. There's also a utility room off the kitchen and a downstairs cloakroom, so the practical stuff stays out of sight.
There are five genuine double bedrooms spread across the upper two floors. The main bedroom on the first floor has its own en-suite shower room. Bedroom two is another spacious double alongside it. The study on the floorplan can also work as bedroom five - the current owners used it as a bedroom for years.
The second floor gives you two more large doubles, both over 16 feet long, each served by the family bathrooms on their respective floors. The landing areas on both floors are wide enough to use as reading or working spots, which makes a real difference in a house this busy.
The garden has been completely reworked over two levels - a generous patio directly outside the bifold doors, then a lawn above. It's private, enclosed and gets the sun all day on the raised section. And that gate at the back opens onto the fields that will become “your” country park - with Ackender Woods and the village of Beech beyond once the developers have finished.
Out front, the driveway takes several cars with ease and the garage has power and lighting. The house sits on a private cul-de-sac of just five houses, and both immediate neighbours are the long-standing original owners - the kind of quiet, settled setting that's hard to find.
Alton town centre is only five minutes away by car. Chawton Primary School, rated “Good” by Ofsted, is roughly three minutes drive away.
Direct trains from Alton station reach London Waterloo in just over an hour, and both Guildford and Winchester are around half an hour away.
This is an impressive detached property that's been seriously upgraded by the only family who've ever owned it, on an exclusive cul-de-sac where nothing much happens - in a very good way.
That country park is coming, and when it does, the back gate is going to feel like one of the best things about living here….until then, just enjoy the kitchen-diner.
Get in touch to arrange a viewing - we're expecting plenty of interest.
